"Translating is not about seizing someone else's work and making it our own,
nor is it an exhibition of technical skills, nor is it a pastime,
nor an exercise, nor a job done for the sake of money.
It is an act of love...
Each translation is destructive if the translator is not a poet
with a song in their heart..."
Södeberg

There are no easy or difficult translations.
The easy ones are simply those we know the traps of.

Translation is a job that requires high professional competence,
reliability and that 'mental curiosity'
that allows the translator to assimilate the knowledge
which they need in order to fulfill the task in hand.

Translating is painting with words.

The accuracy of a translation is not at all a mechanical one.
It requires inventiveness and creativity.
When translating, the accuracy is a form of art.
Milan Kundera

When a translator makes a mistake, everybody criticizes them. Quite rightly.
But when a translator does a wonderful job, everbody takes it for granted.
We become the "invisible authors" and our work is not recognised at all.

"Translation is about cultures, not about languages."
Umberto Eco

"When men became arrogant, God destroyed the Babel Tower and everybody
spoke a different language. But in His infinite love, He created a breed of people
who would have erected bridges in order to communicate, allowing dialog and the spreading of thought.
When we open a foreign book we seldom bother to know
who exactly is that bridge - be it a man or a woman -: the translator."
Paolo Coelho
